Biographical sketch

Alex has spent his career crafting messages and planning communications. After working in comms for four years, he became a journalist at The Daily Telegraph during a period of accelerated digital transformation, and gained an inside perspective on how journalists really think. His focus these days is on corporate communications reputation.

During his time at Circle, the independent healthcare group, he served as Director of Communications and Marketing and Director of Strategy, Insight and Digital. He has completed an MBA at the University of Surrey. He also has a postgraduate Diploma in Crisis Communications from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, which informs his work on brand reputation. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and also of the Public Relations and Communications Association.

Alex’s book, The PR Masterclass, is a guide to media relations and described by PRWeek as “comprehensive, clear and incredibly practical”.

Personal brand values

Magazines like Harvard Business Review recommend that professionals develop a personal brand – and this being a marketing website it seems appropriate to publish some brand values, which shape how I view the world:

Focus – effectiveness, whether in marketing or life generally, requires deciding what’s truly important and moving resources from the marginal and the irrelevant to what will give the best results.

Expertise – I’m passionate about developing and using best practice and also developing skills in others.

Appreciation – the dictionary defines this as the “recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something”.

This site was designed on in Adobe XD by Polaris Design and converted into a WordPress theme by Concevoir Web Services. It is mostly written on a MacBook Pro. Most of the photography is licensed through Adobe Stock. The site is hosted by Stablepoint.

The site uses Helvetica for the logo and TeX Gyre Heros for the body text. Combined with white background and with colour added just in the photography, the site is designed to represent my brand value of Focus – no clutter, just what’s important.
